District Collage was founded by Anjelika Deogirikar Grossman and Hasini Shyamsundar in 2026.
Anjelika and Hasini are D.C.-based artists and educators. We met in D.C. while working in higher education and bonded over our shared upbringing in the San Francisco Bay Area. Anjelika and Hasini were formed by the arts and culture scene in D.C. and, as we cultivated our own creative practices, sought to build space for others to do the same.
As educators and creatives, we love operating from a beginner’s mindset — the idea that, the less you know, the more you grow. Anjelika holds a M.A. in Engaged and Public Humanities, and Hasini holds a M.A. in Learning, Design, and Technology. Through our own learning journeys, we have often encountered more questions about the world than answers. Our creative practices have afforded us a sense of agency in an ever-shifting world.
District Collage is our love letter to Washington, D.C. We recognize that the city has a flourishing arts and culture ecosystem, and we are building District Collage as a space for people to find their own little home within it.
Anjelika and Hasini dream of a world where anyone can tap into their creativity and feel secure in their identity as an artist. We dream of a world where creativity is a valued asset — a force that can bring us together and counter a culture of isolation. We are building District Collage to plant a seed for this future. We hope you will nurture it with us.
